Groundbreaker Submission & Selection
HATCH Asheville 2011 and AIA Asheville Young Architects Forum present the first annual GROUNDBREAKERS architecture competition for current architecture students and young professionals.  The theme for this year’s HATCH Asheville for the discipline of architecture is Design for Action! . The GROUNDBREAKERS competition is an open call to young professionals and current students of architecture that believe architecture can enact change for good. If you think design can change the world and ask yourself “What if?” on a regular basis, we are interested in celebrating your work here in Asheville! Participants can submit thesis projects, built works or any speculative works. We just require vision, innovation and a call to action.

Awards: Up to 3 GROUNDBREAKERS will be chosen by a jury of leading figures in design. The winners will receive funding to travel to HATCH in Asheville, NC April 14-17 2011 to present their work and participate in an inspiring weekend of mentoring, networking and dialogue with luminaries and other groundbreakers in Architecture, Design, Fashion, Journalism, Music, Photography.

Jury: Jurors will be announced soon. The jury will be comprised of leading international / national figures in architecture and design.

Eligibility: Entrants must be architecture / design students or professionals that have graduated from a school of architecture within the last 10 years.

Registration Deadline: The registration deadline is March 14, 2011, 11:59 PM PST. The fee to register is $25.00.  To register and pay the registration fee with Paypal go here . Once you have registered and paid the registration fee you will be sent a unique ID number that you will include with your submission along with your contact information.

Submission Deadline and Guidelines: To be eligible submissions must be received via email at architecture.avl@hatchexperience.com by March 21, 2011  11:59 PM PST.  Participants are to submit a maximum 10 page folio of a work or works addressing the competition theme Design for Action! in .pdf format (max. page size 8.5”x11”).  To insure a blind review process no personal information or images of the likeness of the participant can appear on any pages of the folio.
