THINK SPACE

Wednesday, February 2, 2011Share

Zagreb Society of Architects organizes an international programme of series of concept based architectural competitions entitled Think Space that started on December 6th, 2011.

The programme Think Space serves as a platform for spatial experimentation and exchange of conceptual ideas. Each cycle lasts a calendar year and is constituted by four competitions under the annual theme determined by a guest curator. Each competition brief is formulated by a juror who is proposed by the guest curator and the organizing committee. At the end of the cycle a conference will be held in Zagreb under the annual theme along with the Award ceremony.
We are pleased to announce the guest curator in the forthcoming cycle – Ms Eva Franch Gilabert, director of the Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York and the first juror Mr Shohei Shigematsu of OMA New York, who both prepared the first annual theme and the very first brief for the competition in the Think Space programme.

The annual theme – The Borders [geopolitical, ecological, urban and moral scenarios] is proposed by Ms Franch Gilabert in order to establish an overarching line of inquiry that highlights the concerns of contemporary society. Simultaneously allowing different degrees of exploration, this competition goes back to the conceptual space for the establishment of difference: the Border.
The four competitions developed under the theme of Borders, aim to produce a catalogue of contemporary conditions in social, political and cultural spheres in need of architectural alternatives.
First Think Space Competition – Borders 01: URBAN BORDERS is proposed by Shohei Shigmetsu, Director of the OMA, New York

We invite you to support this competition and welcome you to explore the borders of architectural thought and join the network of progressive thinkers beyond cultural, geographic or institutional borders.

Details of this first competition and complete information on the programme can be found on the official website (www.think-space.org).

Best regards,

Kata Marunica,
Organizing committee
